City Support Take 5 with our NSW Growth Coach, Steve 🍔🫶

Following a lifetime love of food, Steve’s hospitality career took off eleven years ago, and he hasn’t looked back since. Joining our NSW Ops Team last December, this year he’s also been leading the NSW operations of our City Support program.

Off the back of our August City Support dinners, which we hosted together with St Vincent de Paul Society Australia and The Salvation Army Australia, Steve took 5 with our team to share why City Support is so close to his heart.

“It all comes down to human connection. Every night, I make a point to connect with each person who joins the queue, and these small icebreakers often open the door to deeper, more meaningful conversations. It’s truly beautiful to see people light up, feel seen, and heard.

Describing City Support as love, community, and togetherness, Steve’s most impactful moment came during his first City Support.

“I was on wrap, which gave me a clear view of every guest who walked through the door. The first fifty guests had already tugged at my heartstrings, but one moment shifted everything. A woman arrived with three children and all their belongings packed into a single shopping trolley. That’s when my heart truly broke. From that moment on, I understood how vital City Support and initiatives like it really are. It’s not just an evening of good feels; for many, it’s life-giving.

Running since 2022, City Support has become our team’s favourite shift of the month. When it comes to the future, Steve’s vision is all about growth.

“There’s a declining number of guests after 7pm. With thirty minutes left, I would love to serve another 100 guests, people I know are out there, hungry and in need of a meal”.
